KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

SAFETY | The Czech Republic is considered very safe for travelers. However, it’s always wise to keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas.

LANGUAGE | The official language is Czech—a tricky one, but a fun challenge to try a few phrases. Don’t worry though, in major tourist areas, English is widely understood.

CURRENCY | Czech Koruna (CZK). Credit cards are widely accepted. When exchanging money, stick to trusted exchange offices or ATMs from well-known banks. Better to avoid those sneaky EURONET ATMs (they are the ultimate tourist trap).

TIPPING | Tipping is common in restaurant, with 10% being standard if you’re happy with the service.

TIME ZONE | We are in the Central European Time (CET) zone, one hour ahead of GMT.

WEATHER | Don’t forget your sunnies! Expect sunny summer days with temperatures ranging from 20–30°C (68–86°F). Watch out for the occasional cheeky rain shower, better pack a light jacket or umbrella too.

WATER | How lucky we are that tap water is safe to drink everywhere.

TRANSPORTATION | The country has an efficient network of trains and buses. Use the IDOS app (https://idos.cz/en/vlakyautobusymhdvse/spojeni/) to plan your journeys easily.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT | The cities have excellent public transport system, including trams, buses, metro (Prague)

DRIVING | We drive on the right, don’t forget! :) Headlights must be on, day or night. Bring your license, plus an IDP (International Driving Permit) if you’re from outside Europe. For highways travel, get your electronic vignette (https://edalnice.cz/en/index.html#/validation). Then, you're all set to hit the road!

EMERGENCY NUMBER | Fire? Accident? Emergency? Call 112, your lifeline in Europe.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS | Check visa requirements based on your nationality. Most EU and Schengen travellers don’t need a visa.

WI-FI | Free Wi-Fi is widely available in cafes, hotels, and public spaces.

SIM CARD | Stay connected and grab a local SIM card from Vodafone, T-Mobile, or O2 at supermarkets, or right at the airport. Prefer easy? Try an eSIM and get online instantly with providers like Holafly or Airalo—easy to activate it online. Europeans? You’re in luck—your SIM likely works here with no extra hassle.
