How Are We Promoting Innovative Thinking in the Next Generation? Published on June 30th, 2025

With a history of manufacturing vehicles that stretches back more than a century, Škoda Auto has long been a household name in Czechia. What may be less well known about the company, however, is their commitment to supporting technical education for young people. The organization has taken steps to ensure that students across the country are better prepared for technical careers, whether in automotive, engineering, or other industries.

Introducing the Škoda EDU.Lab Mobile Laboratory

Hoping to inspire a new generation of innovators and engineers by giving them practical, real-world experiences in a dynamic and engaging setting, they launched the Škoda EDU.Lab mobile laboratory project in 2021. The program serves students in primary, secondary, and vocational schools, providing modern, well-equipped learning environments that foster innovation and cultivate technical skills. Bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, this initiative equips young learners with the necessary knowledge for a thriving professional future. These efforts are leading to a better educated and more capable community throughout Czechia, developing a skilled workforce that is ready to meet the demands of modern industries.

Supporting the Maker Movement

Škoda Auto is also dedicated to driving the continued growth of the maker movement. Partnering with Make More, the Škoda Auto Endowment Fund provides direct support for Czech Maker Faires, including financing, resources, and expertise to help organize and facilitate the festivals. As a result of this ongoing collaboration, community participation in these events has seen a dramatic increase, and a diverse group of local inventors, artists, and engineers has discovered a helpful platform to showcase their innovative projects, encouraging the broad sharing of ideas. Through regional collaboration, such as Maker Faire camps for children in Mladá Boleslav, the Škoda Auto Endowment Fund seeks real-life inspirations that are then locally piloted, highlighting the importance of local engagement for achieving significant outcomes.

Engaging with Global Innovators at FAB25 Czechia

As they continue the work of promoting education, innovation, and community development, Škoda Auto is excited to share their EDU.Lab project with participants at FAB25 Czechia this summer. Students will have the chance to engage in hands-on activities and workshops focused on STEM learning to encourage a passion for innovation and technology. Also, Martin Hrdlička, Head of Chassis and Powertrain Development, will give a talk on STEM education during the program on Emerging Technology, Wednesday, July 9. And the Škoda Auto team looks forward to interacting with conference attendees from around the world, facilitating collaboration between educators, students, and industry professionals. During this time, they hope to gather valuable feedback that will help them refine and improve their initiative to better meet the needs of students and educators going forward. This should be a great opportunity for Fabbers to get involved and share their perspective.
