How Are We Expanding Access to Hands-On Learning Experiences? Published on June 18th, 2025
Aiming to lower barriers to entry for would-be makers everywhere, xTool produces accessible and intuitive digital fabrication tools to empower creators, educators, and innovators of all backgrounds. They are committed to designing affordable and easy-to-use technology so that more people may fully participate in the deep hands-on learning experiences of the global maker movement. In particular, their tools are driving success in the realm of STEAM education, turning classroom theory into real-world problem solving.
Last year, the Fab Foundation partnered with xTool to integrate their S1 40W laser cutter into the latest iteration of Fab-in-a-Box—a low-cost, high-impact digital fabrication kit that’s purpose-designed for education. Prioritizing user-friendliness and affordability, this collaboration—featuring multiple mission-aligned partners—is now bringing professional-grade fabrication capabilities into classrooms and small makerspaces around the world. The groundbreaking project is set to transform ordinary classrooms and informal learning spaces into creative hubs for design, innovation, and creative exploration.
xTool also supports global maker communities through events, workshops, and partnerships designed to spark collaboration and bolster local impact. We’re honored to have them join us as a partner for FAB25 Czechia. At the July conference, xTool will be introducing a new solution for laser welding, laser cleaning, and CNC cutting, engineered specifically to make precision metalworking more accessible. And their team is planning a hands-on workshop that’s uniquely crafted for the Czech audience. TimeBridge reimagines Prague’s historic astronomical clock, the Orloj, as a collaborative canvas for makers. Using xTool digital fabrication tools and educational robotics, participants will co-create a modular, interactive sculpture that symbolizes the fusion of past knowledge, present tools, and future thinkers. Participants will design and laser-engrave individual tiles based on the theme “Bridge the Gap” and assemble them into a tabletop clock sculpture. A select group will then program robotic features, such as animated clock hands and interactive elements, to bring the piece to life. The experience offers attendees a chance to explore cultural storytelling, engage with cutting-edge tools, contribute to a modular, programmable artwork, and walk away with STEAM-ready templates, open-source files, and new global connections to facilitate future projects.
We’re excited to see how xTool inspires everyone at FAB25 to bridge the gaps between tools and imagination, past and future, and individual ideas and collaborative impact. We hope you join them, along with other Fab Lab leaders, educators, and makers from across the globe, to co-create solutions that make digital fabrication more inclusive and impactful.
